When Ava was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anaemia (Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome), the family was told her best hope of survival was for her to receive a bone marrow transplant.

Fortunately, Ava’s older brother Darby was found to be the perfect match to be her donor. Ava along with Darby, mother Catherine and father Jason were told to pack up their life in Adelaide and get to Sydney Children’s Hospital as soon as possible for the transplant.

It was during this extremely challenging period that the family lived at Ronald McDonald House Sydney.

“RMHC Sydney is an amazing organisation. The difference it made to our family during the time we spent in Sydney for Ava’s treatment cannot be measured in words. The compassion the staff and volunteers showed us, from the moment we arrived, until the moment they all lined the road to wave us goodbye, was something that will never be forgotten.

This charity has touched our lives in a way that can never be repaid and is something we will be forever grateful to have had access to, for the most challenging time in our families lives.” –
